How Teams Qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US

The revamped FIFA Club World Cup begins this weekend in the United States, featuring 32 top football clubs from around the world. Europe leads with 12 teams, followed by South America’s six, while Asia, Africa, and the CONCACAF region each send four teams. Oceania and the host nation each add one team, completing a truly global lineup.

Teams qualify through two main routes: winning their continental championships or securing a spot based on a four-year club ranking system that measures performance in continental competitions.

Sixteen clubs earned their places as champions from 2021 to 2024. European clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City represent UEFA. South America’s representatives include Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Botafogo from the Copa Libertadores. Asia’s AFC Champions League winners such as Al Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, and Al Ain also made the cut. CONCACAF champions like Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, and Pachuca are included, alongside Africa’s Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca, and Oceania’s Auckland City.

An additional 14 clubs secured spots based on consistent continental performances over the past four years. These include European powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, South America’s River Plate and Boca Juniors, as well as top teams from Asia and Africa.

Two final berths go to host nation representatives: Inter Miami, who earned their place by winning the 2024 MLS Supporters Shield, and Los Angeles FC, who claimed their spot after a playoff victory. Notably, Los Angeles FC took the place of Mexican club Leon, banned by FIFA due to ownership conflicts. The expanded format promises exciting matchups and global football spectacle as the tournament runs every four years, showcasing the best clubs across continents.
