19 Dead, 70 Injured as Bangladesh Air Force F-7 Jet Crashes into Dhaka School

At least 19 people were killed and over 70 injured after a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 training jet crashed into the Milestone School and College building in Dhaka's Uttara area on Monday. The tragic incident occurred while classes were in session, resulting in a horrific scene of chaos and devastation.

Television footage showed thick black smoke billowing from the crash site as fire personnel and rescue teams rushed to the scene. Students, some severely burned and bleeding, were seen running in panic as the building was engulfed in flames. Eyewitnesses reported that Army personnel stepped in to assist, carrying injured students to nearby hospitals in rickshaw vans and other available vehicles due to the lack of ambulances at the scene.

The crash occurred when the F-7 jet, made in China, hit the front of the three-story school building. Teachers and staff members initially helped in the rescue efforts, followed by support from the army and fire departments. Over 30 victims were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, with many others being treated at nearby hospitals.

Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it an "irreparable loss" for the victims and their families. The government has vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash and provide assistance to the victims. “This is a moment of deep sorrow for the nation,” Yunus said in a statement.

This tragic event is the second F-7 jet crash this year involving Chinese-made aircraft. Just last month, a similar crash occurred in Myanmar’s Sagaing region, killing the pilot and raising concerns about the quality and safety of Chinese defense equipment. As the investigation continues, the nation has declared one day of state mourning to honor the lives lost in the crash. This devastating incident has left the country in shock and has prompted widespread discussions on military aircraft safety.
