A shocking workplace harassment case has emerged from the Nashik branch of Tata Consultancy Services, where a female employee has alleged months of sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and religious insults by multiple colleagues. The survivor, who joined the company in July 2024, described the office environment as deeply unsafe and intimidating, claiming that accused employees operated without fear due to alleged protection from senior officials.
According to her complaint, the harassment began during a training session in September 2024. She alleged that one of the accused made inappropriate comments about her body and stared at her in a sexually suggestive manner, leaving her humiliated. Over time, the situation reportedly worsened, with repeated incidents of body shaming, obscene remarks, and unwelcome physical contact by colleagues.
In one disturbing instance, the survivor claimed that a co-worker sat next to her and engaged in inappropriate physical behaviour, including touching her without consent under the pretext of using office equipment. She said she was left shocked and distressed, and such incidents created a hostile work environment.
The survivor further alleged that the harassment went beyond physical misconduct. She stated that certain accused individuals made derogatory remarks about her religious beliefs, questioning aspects of Hindu deities in a disrespectful manner. These comments, she said, deeply hurt her sentiments and added to the emotional trauma she was experiencing at the workplace.
The employee described the workplace as “scary”, alleging that a group of accused staff members acted with impunity and were shielded by higher authorities. She claimed that complaints were discouraged at the management level, including by senior officials, preventing proper escalation and action against the accused.
Investigators have indicated that several oral complaints had been made earlier regarding misconduct, but no strict action was taken. This allegedly allowed the accused to continue their behaviour unchecked, raising serious concerns about workplace safety and internal grievance mechanisms.
The case has now escalated, with multiple survivors coming forward with similar allegations. Authorities have registered nine FIRs based on these complaints, and eight individuals, including a senior operations manager, have been arrested so far. Another accused has reportedly sought legal relief but has not been granted anticipatory bail.
The company, in its response, stated that it had not received formal complaints through its official POSH channels during the period in question. However, the ongoing investigation suggests gaps between reported experiences and formal grievance records.
The case has sparked widespread concern about employee safety, corporate accountability, and the effectiveness of workplace harassment prevention systems in large organisations. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge, with authorities examining the extent of misconduct and the role of management in handling complaints.
