Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu during a massive NDA rally ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. At the rally, Modi accused the DMK of running a “CMC government,” which he described as an acronym for “Corruption, Mafia, and Crime,” claiming that these three elements have been flourishing under their rule. He asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu are ready for change and emphasized that the NDA, under BJP leadership, is the preferred choice for development and governance. Modi's remarks come as part of a broader strategy to position the NDA as a government that will end the alleged misgovernance of the DMK.
Modi went on to accuse the DMK of failing to combat the growing drug and liquor mafias in the state, which, according to him, are ruining the future of Tamil Nadu’s youth. He also criticized the state government for betraying public trust, highlighting the DMK’s repeated failure to deliver on its promises despite receiving full majorities in previous elections. The Prime Minister further claimed that the DMK was focused on the interests of a single family, rather than on the democratic values and welfare of the people.
The rally was held against the backdrop of Pongal celebrations, with Modi referencing the state’s historical contributions on Parakram Diwas, a day to commemorate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle. He called for a united effort to free Tamil Nadu from what he termed the "claws of DMK" and spoke about the NDA’s commitment to development, particularly focusing on farmers, fishermen, and healthcare, which he claimed were being neglected by the current state government. With his remarks, Modi not only sought to consolidate the NDA’s position in Tamil Nadu but also set the tone for a fierce electoral battle in 2026.
