Student Sets Teacher on Fire After One-Sided Love; Arrested Within Hours in Bhopal

In a shocking incident that has left Madhya Pradesh in disbelief, an 18-year-old student set a 26-year-old guest teacher on fire at her residence on Monday. The accused, identified as Suryansh Kochar, a former student of Excellence School (Utkrisht Vidyalaya) in Narsinghpur district, allegedly carried out the attack due to a personal grudge.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM when Suryansh visited the teacher's residence, carrying a bottle filled with petrol. Without warning, he poured the liquid on the teacher and set her on fire before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained 10-15% burn injuries but is expected to recover, with doctors confirming that the burns are not life-threatening. She was rushed to a district hospital for treatment.

One-Sided Attachment and Personal Vendetta

Suryansh and the teacher had known each other for over two years. Police investigations reveal that Suryansh had developed a one-sided attachment towards her. The teacher had lodged a complaint against him after he made an inappropriate comment about her saree during the school’s Independence Day celebrations. This action seems to have provoked him, leading to the violent attack.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Manoj Gupta confirmed that the incident stemmed from a personal vendetta and one-sided affection. "The attack was planned and executed by the accused in retaliation for the teacher's complaint," said SDOP Gupta.

The Kotwali police acted promptly and arrested Suryansh from the village of Kalyanpur within hours of the incident. He is currently in custody, and a detailed investigation is underway. A case has been registered under Section 124A and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the victim's full statement will be recorded soon.
