US Open 2025: Alcaraz Draws Djokovic Path As Sinner Defends Title

The US Open 2025 men’s singles draw has handed Carlos Alcaraz a challenging path despite avoiding Jannik Sinner’s half. The Spaniard, who begins against Reilly Opelka, could face Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, or Casper Ruud before a potential semi-final clash with Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz, chasing a second US Open crown, leads the ATP Tour with six titles and 54 wins this season but will need to overcome one of the toughest quarters of the draw. Djokovic, opening against Learner Tien, is on the same half and aims for a record 25th Grand Slam title. Their rivalry remains finely balanced, with Djokovic holding a 5-3 edge and having beaten Alcaraz earlier this year in Melbourne.

On the other side, defending champion Jannik Sinner starts against Vit Kopriva and could face Jack Draper in the quarter-finals. Alexander Zverev, seeded third, also looms as a potential semifinal rival for Sinner. Intriguing first-round contests include Holger Rune against Botic van de Zandschulp, and former champion Marin Cilic meeting Alexander Bublik. The stage is set for a high-octane fortnight at Flushing Meadows, with Alcaraz and Djokovic possibly colliding in one of the tournament’s most anticipated matches.

Sabalenka, Swiatek, And Gauff Lead Women’s Draw

In the women’s singles, world number one Aryna Sabalenka begins her title defense against Rebeka Masarova in a loaded top half featuring Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Jasmine Paolini, and Elena Rybakina. A potential clash with Leylah Fernandez in the early rounds could test her resilience. Sabalenka may face Paolini or Rybakina in the quarters before a possible semifinal against Pegula or Andreeva.

On the bottom half, Iga Swiatek seeks her second US Open crown, opening against Emiliana Arango. She could encounter Amanda Anisimova and Coco Gauff en route to the final. Gauff, the 2023 champion, has a testing path starting with Ajla Tomljanovic and possibly Naomi Osaka or Daria Kasatkina in the last 16. Adding emotional weight to the draw, Venus Williams faces Karolina Muchova in what could be her final US Open appearance, 28 years after her debut final. With star power and thrilling matchups across both halves, the 2025 edition promises drama, rivalries, and history in the making.
