Allari Naresh is returning to full-fledged comedy with Ramba Oorvasi Menaka, a colourful socio-fantasy entertainer directed by Chandra Mohan Chintada. Produced by Razesh Danda and Nimmakayala Prasad under Annapurna Studios and Hasya Movies, the film blends fantasy, family-friendly humour and quirky cinematic references.
Ahead of its theatrical release, Naresh spoke about the film’s unusual premise, the changing nature of comedy, its much-discussed OG spoof and why the entertainer reminds him of the filmmaking style of his father, celebrated director EVV Satyanarayana.
What attracted you to Ramba Oorvasi Menaka?
After playing several serious roles, I wanted to return to complete comedy. It had been a long time since I heard a genuinely entertaining script. This story offered the kind of humour and situations that encouraged me to take up a full-fledged comic role again.
Does the film resemble your earlier comedy entertainers?
Audiences have been missing films in the space of Kithakithalu and Bendu Apparao. Ramba Oorvasi Menaka attempts to bring back that energetic and uncomplicated entertainment. Its humour carries the flavour associated with my father EVV Satyanarayana’s films.
How is this film different from conventional socio-fantasy stories?
Most socio-fantasy films show human characters travelling to places such as Indralok or Yamalok. This film reverses that familiar idea by bringing Ramba, Oorvasi and Menaka from heaven to Earth. Their arrival creates several unusual situations and drives the comedy.
Why has the OG spoof in the trailer attracted so much attention?
Answer: The sequence is connected to my character’s ambition to become a film hero. Cinema shapes how he thinks, speaks and reacts, so he frequently uses familiar movie expressions and dialogue styles. The complete reason for the OG reference will become clear when audiences watch the film.
Have you imitated other actors in the movie?
Yes, there are moments in which I imitate a few actors for comic effect. However, the team made sure that the humour remained respectful and did not insult the performers being referenced.
What can audiences expect from the film’s fantasy world?
The teaser and trailer have introduced a bright world featuring heavenly characters, eccentric personalities and unexpected situations. Fantasy provides the setting, but comedy and character interactions remain at the heart of the film.
Why do you believe making comedy films has become more difficult?
Audiences now consume funny content constantly through memes, reels and social-media posts. Filmmakers must therefore create genuinely fresh ideas and original situations to persuade viewers to visit theatres and laugh together.
Has political correctness affected comedy writing?
Writers have become more cautious because a joke should not hurt an individual, community, gender or social group. Comedy must be entertaining while remaining sensitive. This requires writers to work harder and find humour that does not depend on offending people.
How did director Chandra Mohan Chintada handle the concept?
Chandra Mohan is a strong writer who developed the fantasy-comedy premise carefully. The screenplay brings its unusual characters and situations together, while dialogue writer Nandu has added entertaining lines that strengthen the comic portions.
What is your main promise to audiences?
Ramba Oorvasi Menaka is designed as a clean family entertainer. Families can watch it together, laugh freely and enjoy nearly two-and-a-half hours without taking the story too seriously.
Are you planning to become a director?
Direction is not an immediate priority. My present focus is acting, choosing engaging stories and delivering successful films that audiences can enjoy.
What does this movie represent at this stage of your career?
It marks my return to the comedy genre after a considerable gap. The film combines my familiar comic image with a fantasy premise, contemporary references and respectful humour intended for viewers across age groups.
How do you feel about your role in Kaantha? Playing Kumari in Kaantha is a blessing. It’s a complete performance-oriented character that gave me space to explore my emotions as an actor. I consider it my luck to get such a strong role so early in my career. What was your first reaction when you heard the story? When I heard the story, I was immediately excited.
