Kalki 2898 AD was a major hit in 2024, blending futuristic themes with ancient Indian epics. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film starred Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan. A pivotal scene featuring a silhouette of Lord Krishna sparked discussions about the possibility of Mahesh Babu playing Krishna in the sequel.

In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin addressed rumors regarding Mahesh Babu joining the Kalki universe as Lord Krishna. Ashwin mentioned that although Krishna's full face was not shown in the first film, he believes Mahesh Babu would be an ideal choice for the role if a full-length character is introduced in the sequel. Ashwin praised Babu’s performance in Khaleja and expressed confidence that he could "pull off" the Krishna role.

Released on June 27, 2024, Kalki 2898 AD earned over Rs 1000 crore worldwide, making it one of the year's biggest hits.
