When Kamal Haasan Rejected a Role in Main Hoon Na with a Polite Duck Off to Farah Khan

In a recent cooking vlog shared by Farah Khan on her YouTube channel, the filmmaker opened up about a fun yet surprising incident that took place during the making of her debut film, Main Hoon Na (2004). During the vlog, which featured Shruti Haasan, Farah recalled how Kamal Haasan politely turned down a role in the film, leaving her both amused and surprised.

Farah, who was convinced that Kamal Haasan would be the perfect fit for the antagonist's role in the film, traveled to Chennai to personally narrate the script to him. The role in question was one that opposed Major Ram (played by Shah Rukh Khan) in the film's Indo-Pak peace mission storyline. However, when Farah presented the role to Kamal Haasan, he simply said, “Duck off,” a polite yet firm way of refusing the part.

The role eventually went to Suniel Shetty, whose performance as the antagonist became one of the standout features of the movie. Main Hoon Na went on to become a commercial and critical success, further cementing Farah Khan's directorial prowess. The film also boasted iconic songs like "Tumse Milke" and "Main Hoon Na," making it a major hit in Bollywood.

In her conversation with Shruti Haasan during the vlog, Farah also spoke about Shruti's upcoming film, Coolie, starring Rajinikanth. The film, slated for release on August 14, 2025, will face competition at the box office from Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2. As for Kamal Haasan, after his recent appearance in the Tamil film Thug Life, the veteran actor is currently working on an untitled film with Anbariv, the renowned stunt director duo.
