Suriya 46 Takes a New Turn: From Biopic to Heartwarming Family Drama
Suriya’s 46th film is taking a surprising turn, shifting from a biographical film to a heartwarming family drama. Known for his intense performances in films like Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, Suriya will be seen in a more grounded and lighter role this time, marking a departure from his recent biopic projects.
The film, directed by Venky Atluri, was initially conceived as a biopic on Sanjay Gandhi, focusing on the creation of the Maruti car. However, due to delays in acquiring the rights and Suriya’s commitment to multiple biopics, the direction of the film has now shifted. Venky Atluri pitched a fresh, feel-good family story to Suriya, and despite not having the climax fully developed, Suriya immediately agreed to the new direction.
Production for the film began in June 2025, and it stars Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. Atluri describes the film as a "proper happy family film," with Suriya’s character drawing comparisons to his iconic role as Sanjay Ramaswamy in Ghajini. The shift from a biographical narrative to a more emotionally-driven, family-oriented storyline marks an exciting new chapter in Suriya’s career, promising a film that celebrates human values and family bonds.
