Telugu Film Shoots Stopped as Workers Strike for 30% Salary Hike from August 4

The Telugu film industry witnessed a sudden standstill from Monday, August 4, 2025, as the Telugu Film Industry Employees’ Federation launched a full-scale strike. The federation is demanding a 30 per cent salary increase, and all film shootings, including feature films, web series, and other language productions happening in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, have been put on hold.

This disruption has sent shockwaves through the Tollywood ecosystem, affecting high-budget films, mid-scale projects, and smaller productions equally. The Employees’ Federation has made it clear that their members will not report to sets unless the producers agree to their pay hike demand. Only those film units that have accepted the salary hike will be allowed to continue shooting.

The sudden halt in shooting schedules is expected to cause substantial financial losses for producers, delays in release dates, and a possible reshuffling of launch timelines for upcoming projects. Many popular actors and technicians are also directly affected as ongoing shoots have been cancelled.

The Telugu Film Producer’s Council is actively working to mediate the situation and resume operations at the earliest. Talks are being held with representatives of the employees' federation in hopes of arriving at a solution that avoids long-term disruption. Industry insiders are concerned that if the strike continues, it may lead to a backlog in post-production and distribution processes, impacting the festive release calendar. This strike highlights the growing concerns about fair pay and working conditions in Tollywood, bringing attention to the need for structured agreements between producers and workers’ unions.
