War 2 Box Office Day 4: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR Film Drops to Rs 31 Crore on Sunday
The much-awaited War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has crossed Rs 173 crore nett in India after four days of release. However, the film is now showing early signs of slowdown. After a powerful opening day with Rs 52 crore and an even stronger Friday collection of Rs 57.35 crore, the film began to dip on Saturday with Rs 33.25 crore. The drop continued on Sunday, when the Ayan Mukerji directorial collected just Rs 31 crore nett its lowest daily earnings since release.
Typically, Sunday is considered the strongest day for films driven by positive word-of-mouth, but War 2 failed to capitalise on this trend. The declining numbers have raised concerns about the film’s long-term box office sustainability, despite its star power and heavy promotions.
War 2 is the sixth installment in YRF’s ambitious spy universe, also featuring Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana in key roles. However, early reviews suggest that the film’s weaknesses lie not in its action set pieces but in its story. India Today rated the film two stars, pointing out that “the story ends up being the film’s biggest villain.” While Hrithik Roshan’s stylish screen presence and Jr NTR’s performance were appreciated, audiences criticized the CGI and background score.
With Rs 173.60 crore nett in its first four days, War 2 has managed strong initial numbers, but the downward trend hints at struggles ahead at the domestic box office. Whether the film can maintain momentum through the weekdays will determine if it remains a profitable addition to YRF’s spy franchise or settles as one of its weaker outings.
