Aishwarya Rai And Abhishek Bachchan Film Shelved After Producer Controversy Says Prahlad Kakkar
A highly anticipated Bollywood project that was to reunite Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan on screen after Guru (2007) has been shelved, according to director Prahlad Kakkar. The film was also set to feature Amitabh Bachchan as the narrator, giving it the appeal of a rare three-member Bachchan family collaboration. Despite the strong casting, the project collapsed before production could begin, with Kakkar revealing that concerns over producer Gaurang Doshi ultimately led to its cancellation.
Kakkar explained in an interview that Doshi was never serious about completing the film. He shared that Aishwarya Rai disapproved of working with the producer due to his troubling reputation, referring to allegations of abusive behavior. Abhishek Bachchan also expressed doubts about Doshi’s intentions, sensing that the project lacked genuine commitment. Kakkar emphasized that the casting had been ideal, with Amitabh Bachchan in the role of sutradhaar, but Doshi’s sudden disappearance from the scene abruptly halted the project.
The director reflected on how the film could have marked a powerful reunion for Aishwarya and Abhishek, supported by Amitabh Bachchan’s narration. However, Doshi’s controversies overshadowed the potential. Kakkar candidly described him as a crook who had no serious plans to produce the film. He added that both Aishwarya and Abhishek became cautious, leading to the project being abandoned entirely.
In addition to discussing the shelved film, Prahlad Kakkar recalled his long association with Aishwarya Rai, whom he mentored during her early modeling days. He shared that he once told her mother that Aishwarya would be the next Madhubala, impressed by her natural talent and charm. Kakkar, who continues to encounter Aishwarya as they live in the same building, noted that despite her global fame, she remains warm and approachable. He described her as unchanged from the early years, still grounded in her interactions with people around her.
