In a significant ruling, the Delhi High Court has barred Ravi Mohan Studios from using the title Bro Code for its upcoming Tamil film, citing trademark infringement. The court ruled in favor of Indospirit Beverages, which owns the registered trademark “Bro Code” for its alcohol products. The bench, led by Justice Tejas Karia, stated that the film’s title could mislead consumers and harm the brand’s established goodwill.
The judgment emphasized that the unauthorized use of an identical mark amounts to infringement and could cause confusion among consumers familiar with the beverage brand. The court’s statement noted, “A prima facie case is made by the Plaintiff that the Plaintiff’s Mark has been used identically in the title of the Defendant’s film without authorization, leading to potential consumer confusion.”
The film’s producers argued that the beverage brand lacked registration in “Class 41” of the Trade Marks Act, 1999, which pertains to entertainment and media. Despite this defense, the court upheld the injunction, temporarily halting the use of the name. Directed by Karthik Yogi, Bro Code stars Ravi Mohan, SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Upendra, Gouri Priya, Shraddha Srinath, Malavika Manoj, and Aishwarya Raj, and is slated for a 2026 release—pending resolution of the title dispute.
