Ranabaali first glimpse: Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s epic set for Sept 11
The makers of Ranabaali have officially unveiled the title and first glimpse of their much-awaited period action drama, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. Released on Republic Day, the intense preview has instantly drawn attention for its raw visuals, powerful narration, and historical setting. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 11, 2026. Set in the 19th century, Ranabaali explores a turbulent phase in Indian history, focusing on the brutal impact of British colonial policies that pushed several regions into extreme poverty and famine. The glimpse introduces audiences to a land scarred by drought, hunger, and exploitation, allegedly engineered under British officials like Sir Richard Temple, setting a dark and emotionally charged tone for the story.
Vijay Deverakonda appears in a strikingly intense avatar as Ranabaali, a character shaped by rage, resistance, and survival. One of the most talked-about moments from the glimpse shows him riding a horse while dragging a British officer along railway tracks, symbolising rebellion against colonial cruelty. The narrative strongly hints at large-scale atrocities, describing them as genocides and massive economic exploitation that have remained largely absent from mainstream historical discussions. Rather than following a conventional historical retelling, the filmmakers clarify that Ranabaali is a cinematic reconstruction inspired by real events that occurred between 1854 and 1878. These incidents are drawn from oral histories, multiple accounts, and suppressed records, presenting characters who were once branded as rebels or savages through a new and more human lens.
Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, a key character whose presence adds emotional depth to the story, while Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo, known for his role in The Mummy franchise, essays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The film is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner, with T-Series presenting the project. Ranabaali also marks the third on-screen collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade, a pairing that has already proven popular with audiences. Additionally, the film reunites Vijay Deverakonda with director Rahul Sankrityan after their successful collaboration in Taxiwaala, further raising expectations. With its grand scale, politically charged themes, and emotionally intense storytelling, Ranabaali is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated pan-Indian releases of the year.
