Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on Struggle and Life, Recalls Father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s Wisdom

Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on Struggle and Life, Recalls Father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s Wisdom

On the night of February 3, 2026, Amitabh Bachchan shared a deeply reflective and philosophical post on his blog, contemplating the meaning of life, struggle, and the profound impact of silence. This personal note offered a glimpse into his thoughts, drawing from his father, the late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan's wisdom, and his own connection to the renowned Urdu poet, Firaq Gorakhpuri. Amitabh’s note resonates with emotions of introspection and reflection, offering his readers a moment of calm amidst the noise of the modern world.

Amitabh recalled a conversation he had with his “pujya babuji” (revered father), in which they discussed the concept of struggle as an inseparable part of life. Amitabh wrote about a time when he mentioned to his father how life seemed filled with constant struggles. His father’s response, “Beta, jab tak jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai” (As long as there is life, there is struggle), struck a chord with the actor. This simple yet profound statement encapsulates a central philosophy that life itself is a constant struggle, and it is something everyone must embrace as part of their journey.

Amitabh further reflected on how the philosophies of his father mirrored those of Firaq Gorakhpuri, a celebrated poet and contemporary of Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The two poets, who were close friends, had similar emotional landscapes, and Amitabh noted that they both belonged to the Kayastha community. However, Harivansh Rai Bachchan never believed in caste divisions, highlighting his progressive mindset. Amitabh emphasized that, despite sharing a community background, his father’s beliefs transcended caste, underlining the unity and universality of their shared thoughts.

In his late-night reflections, Amitabh also highlighted Firaq Gorakhpuri’s poetry, which was imbued with deep emotions and thoughtful expressions in Urdu. Amitabh revealed that while reading Firaq’s work, he found that many of the poet’s words resonated deeply with his father’s own life philosophies. The connection between the two poets, both of whom were highly regarded in their respective literary circles, underscored the enduring nature of their wisdom.

As the clock approached 4 a.m., Amitabh observed the stillness of the night around him. This serene environment allowed him to disconnect from the constant noise of the world and truly reflect on his own thoughts. He noted that the silence of the night often speaks louder than the words that occupy one's mind during the day. The calmness of this time allowed him to momentarily step away from the distractions of social media and the hustle of daily life, providing a refreshing moment of peace. He described this quiet solitude as a chance to reconnect with oneself, a rare opportunity in the midst of today’s fast-paced world.

Amitabh also acknowledged the pervasive influence of modern society, where the roles of individuals seem to be increasingly focused on communication, journalism, and opinion-making. He pointed out that in the world of 8.2 billion humans, many are now defined by their professions as communicators, opinion-makers, or even influencers. This observation underscores the complexity of the current world, where digital spaces are constantly filled with voices and opinions, leaving little room for silence and introspection.
