Prakash Raj Opens Up About His Role In Rajamouli’s Varanasi
Veteran actor Prakash Raj has officially confirmed his participation in Varanasi, the much anticipated mythological action drama directed by S. S. Rajamouli. The announcement has added fresh excitement to the already high profile project, which features Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in key roles.
Speaking at a recent public event, Prakash Raj revealed that he has completed a couple of shooting schedules for the film and will be portraying a Maha Shiva Bhakt. While industry speculation suggests he may be playing Mahesh Babu’s father in the film, there has been no official confirmation regarding the exact character dynamics. His entry reportedly follows the exit of Rajat Kapoor due to creative differences, further strengthening the cast with his seasoned presence.
Mounted on a grand scale, Varanasi is described as a mythological action drama rooted in spiritual and cultural themes. With approximately 50 percent of the shoot already completed, the team aims to wrap up production before August. The film is currently slated for a theatrical release on April 7, 2027, and is expected to be a major pan India spectacle.
Apart from Varanasi, Prakash Raj has also confirmed his involvement in Drishyam 3 starring Ajay Devgn. He clarified that he is not replacing any actor in that project and dismissed rumours about being removed from Spirit, the upcoming action drama directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Prabhas. As anticipation builds around Rajamouli’s next epic venture, Prakash Raj’s role as a devoted Shiva follower is set to add emotional and spiritual weight to the grand cinematic narrative.
