Rajinikanth Gets Major Relief in Long-Running Service Tax Case

In a significant development, Rajinikanth has received major relief in a long-running service tax case related to a commercial property he owns in Chennai. The Customs, Excise, and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal has overturned an earlier ruling that had demanded the actor pay service tax for leasing his property without fail.

The property, located on Kodambakkam High Road, was rented to the restaurant chain Vasantha Bhavan for hotel operations. The service tax department had initially demanded a payment of approximately Rs 56.84 lakh for the period between 2007 and 2012. Rajinikanth had challenged the order in 2016, arguing that the building was leased for hotel operations, which are exempt from service tax under the Finance Act.

The tribunal agreed with Rajinikanth's argument, ruling in his favor and cancelling the tax demand, much to the relief of the actor. On the film front, Rajinikanth is all set to appear in the highly anticipated Jailer 2, keeping fans excited for his next big screen appearance.
