Jana Nayagan CBFC Screening Cancelled, Vijay Film Certification Delayed

The certification process for Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan has faced yet another unexpected delay. According to recent reports, the film was scheduled to be screened before the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification on March 9 at around 2 pm. However, the screening was cancelled at the last moment after one of the committee members reportedly fell ill. As a result, the review process has been postponed indefinitely.

Sources suggest that the production team had already been informed about the screening schedule earlier, but the sudden health issue forced the authorities to cancel the session. This latest development adds to the growing list of hurdles that the much-anticipated project has encountered in recent months.

Jana Nayagan has been going through a complicated certification process for some time now. Earlier reports indicated that the CBFC committee had initially reviewed the film in December 2025 and suggested certain edits. The filmmakers reportedly implemented the recommended changes and submitted the film again.

However, a member of the original committee later raised concerns regarding the depiction of certain religious elements in the film and the alleged use of armed forces logos without proper consultation. Following these objections, the CBFC chairman decided to refer the film to a revising committee for further evaluation.

The makers had initially approached the Madras High Court to challenge the decision, leading to a legal dispute with the CBFC that lasted for several weeks. Recently, the production company submitted a request to withdraw the legal case, indicating that they are willing to continue with the certification process through the official review channels.

Jana Nayagan has already faced multiple delays since its original release plan earlier this year. With the certification review now postponed again, the exact release timeline remains unclear. Some industry reports have suggested that the film could potentially release in June after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, but the makers have not confirmed any official date yet.

The film features a strong ensemble cast including Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain. The music for the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while cinematography is handled by Sathyan Sooryan. Jana Nayagan is produced by KVN Productions and is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film as an actor before focusing fully on his political career.
