Peddi's Delay Opens Doors for 4 Major Film Releases in May
Ram Charan's highly anticipated film Peddi, which was originally scheduled to release on March 27, 2026, has been delayed to June, opening the door for other films to make their mark at the box office in May. The shift in release dates creates an opportunity for four Telugu films to test their luck during the summer movie season, with their release dates now firmly set for the month of May.
Gaayapadda Simham, directed by newcomer Kashyap and starring Tharun Bhascker and JD Chakravarthy, was already set for release on May 1. This date was locked even before the delay of Peddi was confirmed, which has only increased the anticipation surrounding its release. The film is now in a favorable position as it sticks to its original release plan without any delay, taking advantage of the lack of competition from Peddi.
Anand and Vaishnavi's Epic is also aiming for a May 1 release, with the team waiting for the official confirmation of Peddi's delay to finalize their plans. Although the film initially generated some buzz, its recent promotional content has not gained significant traction. To maximize its chances, the makers will need to ramp up promotions as soon as the release date is confirmed.
On May 8, Satya’s Jetlee, a comedy entertainer, will make its way to the big screen. The film has strong potential to perform well at the box office, with Prathyangira Cinemas handling its release in the USA. Alongside Jetlee, Maa Inti Bangaram, starring Samantha, will release on May 15, 2026. Initially expected to be a May 1 release, Maa Inti Bangaram has now been moved to mid-May, which positions it well in a window with fewer big releases.
All four films Gaayapadda Simham, Epic, Jetlee, and Maa Inti Bangaram—are currently generating decent buzz within film circles. With no major film releases planned for early May, these films stand a good chance of capitalizing on strong word of mouth (WOM) to drive box office numbers. Their success will largely depend on effective promotion and audience reception once they hit the screens.
