With exactly one year left until SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated film Varanasi is set to release, the film's plot has been leaked online. The leak surfaced through the website of Cinesite, a visual effects firm working on the project. The film, which stars Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, was previously shrouded in mystery, but the leaked synopsis has provided key details.

The plot centers around Rudhra (Mahesh Babu), a Shiva devotee, who embarks on a perilous time-traveling quest to recover a powerful cosmic artefact. As the story progresses, Rudhra discovers that the mission is manipulated by the antagonist, Kumbha (Prithviraj Sukumaran), who seeks to use the artefact, dating back to the Ramayana era, for world domination. The film blends mythology with science fiction, particularly the concept of time travel, promising a unique adventure.

Cinesite, known for its work on major Hollywood productions, including Aquaman and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is heavily involved in the visual effects of Varanasi. While the plot leak raises questions about how Rajamouli might respond, industry experts speculate that the director may either tighten confidentiality protocols or change certain elements to maintain the film’s intrigue.

Directed by SS Rajamouli and written by Vijayendra Prasad, Varanasi is Rajamouli’s first film since the success of RRR. The film is expected to be a grand spectacle, combining mythological storytelling with cutting-edge visual effects, and will be released theatrically on April 7, 2027.
