Jamie Lever Recalls Scam Audition Asking Her To Strip During Video Call
Jamie Lever, daughter of legendary Bollywood comedian Johny Lever, recently opened up about a disturbing experience during a casting call that turned out to be a scam. The 37-year-old actor-comedian shared that she was approached for what was claimed to be an international project. She was informed the role would be bold, but what unfolded during the audition left her shocked and uncomfortable.
In an interview with media, Jamie revealed that the audition took place over a video call. Initially told to be ready for an improvised performance, she was not given a script beforehand. Once on the call, she was told to imagine a situation involving a 50-year-old man and to perform in a manner that would charm him. Things escalated when the individual posing as the director suggested that the improvisation could involve her stripping.
Jamie immediately voiced her discomfort and requested to stick to a formal script, but the person insisted that the audition required unscripted interaction. She quickly suspected foul play, especially since the so-called director refused to turn on his camera, claiming he was travelling. Realising that the situation was unsafe and potentially a scam, she ended the call immediately.
The comedian noted how easily she could have been trapped if she hadn’t trusted her instincts. She acknowledged the danger she narrowly avoided and expressed concern for other women in the industry who may not be as fortunate. “Had I acted naively, my video could have been recorded and misused. It was frightening because it was the first time something like this happened to me,” Jamie shared.
She called it a wake-up call about the prevalent scams in the entertainment industry, where fake auditions are often conducted under the guise of casting for bold roles. Jamie emphasized the need for aspiring artists to stay alert and never proceed without verifying the authenticity of the casting team.
Jamie Lever, known for her roles in films like 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon' and 'Housefull 4', turned this experience into a learning moment. Despite the unpleasant encounter, she continues her career with optimism. She is set to begin her international comedy tour titled 'The Jamie Lever Show' in the United States on August 1, starting in Seattle and concluding in Boston on August 31, covering 15 cities.
This incident not only brings attention to the dark side of the film industry but also serves as a cautionary tale for performers navigating online auditions. Jamie’s quick thinking saved her from what could have been a deeply compromising situation, and she now hopes her story will raise awareness and prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
