Ohh My Dog, starring Pankaj Tripathi and debutant Maahi Rai, has been postponed from July 31 to August 7, 2026. The makers delayed the release due to limited screen availability and heavy competition from bigger films during the original weekend.
Ohh My Dog Release Postponed by One Week
The theatrical release of Ohh My Dog, starring Pankaj Tripathi and debutant Maahi Rai, has been postponed just days before the film was scheduled to arrive in cinemas. The Amit Rai directorial, initially planned for Friday, July 31, 2026, will now release one week later on Friday, August 7.
The decision was reportedly taken late on Sunday after the makers reviewed the number of screens available during the original release weekend. The production team also cancelled its scheduled press screening and said a new screening would be arranged closer to the revised release date.
Ohh My Dog Faces Heavy Competition for Screens
According to sources connected with the film, several cinema screens had already been allocated to major releases, including The Odyssey and Dhamaal 4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day was also expected to arrive on July 31, further increasing competition for shows and audience attention.
Director Amit Rai explained that Ohh My Dog needed sufficient space in theatres for its marketing and word-of-mouth strategy to work. As a smaller family film, it risked receiving limited shows during a crowded weekend dominated by bigger productions.
The filmmaker said the team preferred to step aside temporarily rather than release the film without adequate visibility. By August 7, audiences may have already watched some of the major releases, potentially creating more space for the family entertainer to attract viewers and gradually increase its screen count.
Ohh My Dog Relies on Story Rather Than Box Office Scale
Ohh My Dog is presented as an emotional family film centred on a child and his relationship with dogs. Maahi Rai plays the central character, while Pankaj Tripathi appears in a limited but important supporting role.
Tripathi has said that the importance of the film lies in its subject rather than the length of his appearance. He described writer-director Amit Rai, the young lead actor and the canine performers as the project’s real stars, explaining that he joined the film to support its message. Reports also stated that the actor worked on the project without charging a fee.
The actor added that the film was not created with the sole ambition of becoming a massive commercial blockbuster. Its success, according to him, would come from recovering its investment and connecting emotionally with families and children.
Ohh My Dog New Release Date Sets Clearer Box Office Window
The film also features Pavan Malhotra and Rajesh Kumar in significant roles. Its trailer presents a combination of humour, emotion, mystery and the bond between children and animals.
The one-week postponement gives the makers additional time to continue promotions while seeking a more favourable theatrical window. However, the film will still need strong audience reactions and positive word of mouth to compete effectively once it reaches cinemas.
Ohh My Dog will now release theatrically on August 7, 2026. The makers are expected to announce revised press screenings and promotional activities before the new release date.
