Mahakali Glimpse Unveils Akshaye Khanna As Shukracharya
The makers of Mahakali have released the first official glimpse, titled Shukracharya’s War Cry, introducing Akshaye Khanna in a fierce new avatar as the guru of the Asuras. The video also confirms that the mythology-based epic will arrive in theatres worldwide for Sankranthi on January 8, 2027.
Part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, Mahakali aims to take the franchise into a darker and more expansive mythological space. The universe began with Hanu-Man and is now being developed through multiple stories and characters.
The glimpse places Shukracharya at the centre of a vast conflict. What begins as a clash between good and evil soon appears to grow into a much larger battle involving the forces of the Asuras and consequences that extend beyond a conventional battlefield.
Akshaye Khanna’s transformation is the major highlight of the presentation. His intense expression, commanding screen presence and restrained delivery give Shukracharya an imposing aura. The glimpse positions the character as an intelligent and formidable force within the narrative rather than simply a conventional antagonist.
Mahakali is created by Prasanth Varma and directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru. The film carries forward the mythology-inspired world built through Hanu-Man, while introducing a separate storyline with a different scale and tonal identity.
The first glimpse uses dark visual compositions, atmospheric frames and large-scale settings to establish an ominous mood. The makers have hinted that the conflict at the heart of the film may be more than a battle between opposing sides, with the teaser ending on the phrase, “The end begins.”
Bhoomi Shetty plays the lead role in the film, while Sriya Reddy also appears in a significant part. One of the teaser’s most-discussed moments features Sriya Reddy in a temple setting, adding further mystery to the world of Mahakali.
The production design, visual effects and set scale suggest that the team is attempting a grand cinematic experience rooted in mythology. The film’s setting appears distinct from earlier PVCU projects while still fitting into the wider universe developed by Prasanth Varma.
Mahakali Glimpse Showcases Epic Visual Scale And Cast
Along with Akshaye Khanna, Bhoomi Shetty and Sriya Reddy, the project features an ensemble cast that includes Rohit Saraf and other actors. The newly released glimpse focuses primarily on establishing Shukracharya’s role and the scale of the looming conflict.
Akshaye Khanna’s role has generated strong interest because Mahakali marks his Telugu cinema debut. His look as Shukracharya, with white facial hair, traditional markings and an intense gaze, has become a major talking point after the teaser release.
Presented by RK Duggal and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, Mahakali has been positioned as a large-scale mythological drama. The project is expected to blend traditional mythology with contemporary visual storytelling, a combination that has become a defining feature of the PVCU.
The makers had earlier indicated that filming was entering its final phase after an extensive production schedule. The release of the first glimpse now gives audiences a clearer idea of the scale and tone of the film.
Mahakali Glimpse Sets Up Sankranthi 2027 Release
Mahakali will hit theatres on January 8, 2027, placing it in the competitive Sankranthi release window. The date gives the team several months to complete post-production work, including the visual effects that appear central to the film’s world-building.
The title Shukracharya’s War Cry makes it clear that the first promotional phase is centred on Akshaye Khanna’s character. Future updates may reveal more about Bhoomi Shetty’s role, Sriya Reddy’s character and the larger mythology of the film.
