Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh has praised the trailer of Ranabaali, calling attention to its portrayal of Rayalaseema’s history, famine and oppression under British rule. His comments have added to the conversation around Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming period drama, which is scheduled to release in theatres on October 16, 2026.
Lokesh Applauds the Trailer’s Historical Detail
After watching the trailer, Lokesh described it as an “immersive experience.” He praised the filmmakers’ recreation of 1800s Rayalaseema and their depiction of the famine and hardship of the British era. He called the detailing “phenomenal,” pointing to the historical atmosphere as one of the trailer’s strongest features.
He Praises Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna
Lokesh also commended Vijay Deverakonda’s fierce screen presence, saying the actor appeared at home in the soil of Seema. He praised Rashmika Mandanna for anchoring Vijay’s performance and congratulated director Rahul Sankrityan and the entire team for bringing what he described as a powerful, untold chapter of history to the screen. Lokesh ended his post by wishing the film’s cast and crew success ahead of its release.

Ranabaali Tells a Fictional Story Against a Historical Backdrop
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali is set in the 1870s, during a famine in the Madras Presidency. The trailer introduces a fictional village in Rayalaseema and follows Ranabaali, played by Vijay, as he rises to defend its people against British oppression. Rashmika plays Jayamma, his wife, while Arnold Vosloo portrays British commissioner Sir Theodore Hector. The film uses the historical period as its backdrop while telling a fictional story.
Ranabaali Set for October 16 Release
Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film brings Vijay and Rashmika together on screen for the first time after their marriage. With the trailer drawing attention to its regional setting, colonial-era conflict and lead performances, Ranabaali is building anticipation ahead of its October 16 theatrical release.
