Young and talented actor Suhas is back on the big screens with Ambajipeta Marriage Band which released today. The films is promoted as a social drama by the makers and here is a look into the same.
Story: Malli (Suhas) is a drummer at a marriage band and also a barber. While he is leading a happy go lucky lifestyle, all hell breaks loose after he falls in love with local casteist individuals, Venkat. After the caste-driven Venkat comes to know about the love story, he seeks revenge on Malli. Can the couple escape this tight grasp?
How did the actors perform?
Hero Suhas is the right fit for the role. He gets into the skin of the character with his natural performance and has the kind of aesthetic that is needed for this role. Debutant Shivani Nagaram delivers a fine performance in her role and she has the right kind of looks for her oppressed yet earnest character. Goparaju Ramana and Sharanya Pradeep too get important roles and they deliver well.
Analysis:
Suhas has picked another social-class drama after Color Photo. The film has strong casteist representations and deals with the class and case disparity in the Telugu states. The core point is hard hitting and relevant.
The opening exchanges are dedicated to reveal the happy go lucky lifestyle of Suhas and this portion is decent as it has enough entertainment in the offing. The love track between Suhas and Shivani caters to the youth. The comedy bit works well. The interval block offers the cinematic high that is needed.
But the issue with social dramas are that everyone can guess the ending and the same thing has happened with this film. We are served a formulaic and expected ending that follows the tropes of Telugu social dramas. A different approach could have worked in the film's favor.
For the most part, the proceedings are predictable. But at the same time, there is just about enough drama in the narrative and an earnest presentation of the characters that works the trick. So despite being a predictable drama, Ambajipeta Marriage Band offers a decent one-time watch.
Verdict: This Suhas starrer is a decent one-time watch with its formulaic yet reasonably attention-holding screenplay. More creativeness in dealing with the latter half could have worked well.
