Dilruba Telugu Movie Review: Kiran Abbavaram's Latest Romantic Drama

Dilruba Telugu Movie Review: Kiran Abbavaram's Latest Romantic Drama

Plot Overview

The story follows Siddhu (Kiran Abbavaram), who faces tragic losses on the same day — his respected father and his childhood love Meghna (Khyati Davinson). Devastated by this double blow, Siddhu decides to emotionally detach himself from others and joins an engineering college in Mangaluru. There, he meets Anjali (Rukshar), who brings some positive change in him. However, just when Siddhu begins to open up, Anjali too leaves him. The movie unfolds the mystery behind why Siddhu keeps losing people in his life — is it his personality, his attitude, or something deeper?

Performances

  • Kiran Abbavaram impresses with his mass-appeal avatar. His improved styling, body language, and confident presence add freshness to his role. While some elements resemble a typical Puri Jagannadh hero, Kiran's performance connects well with the youth audience.
  • Rukshar plays the role of Anjali with energy and charm. Despite minor lip-sync issues, her performance leaves a positive impression.
  • Khyati Davinson attempts to deliver a strong performance but her character lacks impact due to underdeveloped writing.
  • Satya and John Vijay are underutilized despite their potential.
  • Kranti Killi stands out with his stylish villain portrayal but lacks substantial screen presence.

Technical Aspects

  • Director Vishwa Karun brings a distinct storytelling style influenced by Puri Jagannadh. While the concept — where an ex-lover returns to help the protagonist win over his present love — had potential, the execution lacked depth.
  • The emotional scenes fail to connect strongly due to inconsistent shot composition and weak emotional buildup. Despite some engaging moments, the narrative feels incomplete.
  • Daniel Vishwas ensures visually striking frames with rich color combinations and neat shot framing.
  • The visuals are aesthetically pleasing, particularly in outdoor and emotional sequences.

Music

Sam C.S.’s background score is the standout element in the film. His intense BGM for the Kesipidi song and interval fight scene adds significant impact. The music effectively elevates key moments throughout the movie.

Editing

The film’s pacing suffers due to excessive drag in the college scenes and a prolonged climax fight. A crisper edit could have improved the film’s overall flow.

Positives

✅ Kiran Abbavaram’s impressive screen presence and youthful performance
✅ Strong background score by Sam C.S.
✅ Visually appealing cinematography
✅ Well-designed interval fight scene catering to mass audiences

Negatives

❌ Weak emotional depth in key scenes
❌ Dragged-out college episodes causing pacing issues
❌ Climax fight sequence feels unnecessarily prolonged
❌ Underutilized supporting cast
❌ The villain’s arc lacks impactful execution

Analysis

While Dilruba attempts to balance romance, heartbreak, and emotional depth, it struggles to deliver the emotional connectivity that successful love stories require. Although the film has strong technical elements like music and visuals, the core storytelling falters. Several scenes fail to evoke the intended emotions, making the overall experience somewhat underwhelming. Despite these drawbacks, youth audiences and college students may find it entertaining enough for a one-time watch.

Bottom Line

A youth-centric romantic drama with engaging visuals and a strong background score but weakened by emotional disconnect and pacing issues.
