Sundarakanda : Latest Telugu Movie Review

Plot

Siddharth (Nara Rohith), a middle-aged, happy-go-lucky bachelor, has a checklist of five qualities inspired by his childhood crush Vyshnavi (Sridevi Vijaykumar). His search for the perfect partner leads him to Eira (Virti Vaghani), a college girl he meets at an airport. As he follows her to see if she fits his dream list, the story explores their relationship, the challenges of their age gap, and the re-entry of Vyshnavi into his life.

Overview

Sundarakanda is a clean rom-com directed by debutant Venkatesh Nimmalapudi. The film banks on a predictable love story with a unique twist in the second half. Though the narrative is lighthearted, its lack of freshness and stronger entertainment elements holds it back from standing out.

Performances

  • Nara Rohith looks stylish and carries the boy-next-door image well, balancing humor and emotions.
  • Sridevi Vijaykumar makes a comeback, portraying different phases of her character, though the younger look feels less convincing.
  • Virti Vaghani is bubbly, charming, and shines in emotional moments.
  • Satya steals the show with comic timing and consistent humor as Rohit’s friend.
  • Supporting cast including Vasuki Anand, Naresh, Abhinav Gomatam, and VTV Ganesh do fine but are underutilized.

Technical Aspects

  • Cinematography by Pradeesh Varma provides polished visuals.
  • Editing by Rohan Chillale could have been tighter, especially in the second half.
  • Production Values by Sandeep Picture Palace are rich, giving the film a neat look.
  • Direction by Venkatesh Nimmalapudi shows promise but struggles with predictability.

Music

Leon James delivers a passable soundtrack and background score. However, the absence of chartbuster songs, which are crucial in rom-coms, weakens the film’s appeal.

Editing

Some sequences, particularly in the second half, could have been trimmed to avoid dragging and ensure smoother flow.

Positives

  • Nara Rohith and Virti’s chemistry
  • Satya’s humor and screen presence
  • Clean and family-friendly storytelling
  • Interesting unconventional twist

Negatives

  • Predictable storyline
  • Flat narration at times
  • No memorable songs
  • Underutilization of supporting characters

Analysis

Sundarakanda attempts to bring back the charm of clean, softhearted Telugu rom-coms without violence or excessive drama. It partly succeeds with pleasant first-half entertainment, neat chemistry between the leads, and a sensible twist. However, the predictable storyline, average music, and lack of punch in execution keep it from being a standout film. Despite its shortcomings, it works as a breezy watch for families seeking light entertainment this festive season.

Bottomline: Clean Rom-Com
