Parasakthi: Latest Tamil Movie Review

Parasakthi: Latest Tamil Movie Review

Plot

Set against the backdrop of the 1960s anti-Hindi imposition movement in Tamil Nadu, Parasakthi follows the lives of two brothers Chezhiyan, a fierce student leader, and Chinnadurai. The story explores how political pressure, personal loss, and ideological conflicts reshape their lives. Chezhiyan’s transformation from a revolutionary to a peaceful citizen and his eventual return to the movement forms the emotional and political core of the narrative.

Overview

Director Sudha Kongara attempts to present a politically sensitive and historically significant subject. Though the premise is powerful, the film struggles to convert its strong idea into an emotionally engaging cinematic experience. Despite high expectations from the Sivakarthikeyan–Sudha Kongara combination, the film largely fails to live up to its potential due to weak writing and slow execution.

Performances

  • Sivakarthikeyan delivers a sincere and controlled performance, especially in emotional scenes.
  • Ravi Mohan surprises with his first full-fledged antagonist role and performs convincingly.
  • Atharvaa is decent in a supportive role.
  • Sreeleela looks charming but lacks emotional depth.
  • Kulappulli Leela stands out with a strong performance.
  • Sandhya Mridul resembles Indira Gandhi well, though performance remains average.
  • Cameos by Rana Daggubati, Basil Joseph, and Daali Dhananjaya add some spark to the pre-climax.

Technical Aspects

Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran beautifully recreates the 1960s atmosphere. Production design enhances authenticity. However, poor editing and sluggish pacing weaken the overall impact.

Music

G. V. Prakash Kumar’s background score works in a few scenes, but all songs fail to leave any impression. Song placement, especially in the first half, disrupts the narrative flow.

Editing

Sathish Suriya’s editing is one of the film’s biggest drawbacks. The first half drags heavily, and at least 20 minutes could have been trimmed to improve engagement.

Positives

  • Decent pre-climax
  • Few engaging moments
  • Excellent cinematography
  • Authentic period feel

Negatives

  • Very slow narration
  • Weak emotional connect
  • Excessive runtime
  • Inconsistent writing
  • Boring romantic track
  • Forgettable songs
  • Poor VFX in climax

Analysis

Parasakthi had all the ingredients to become a powerful political drama. However, the writing fails to emotionally involve the audience. Important scenes that should have created strong impact remain flat due to half-hearted execution. The director appears trapped between political sensitivity and creative expression, resulting in diluted storytelling. Though the film opens and closes well, the journey in between feels painfully stretched and uninspiring.

Bottomline: Lost Opportunity
