In a tragic incident on Thursday morning, six people lost their lives after a helicopter crashed near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. The chopper, which was en route from Dehradun to Harsil helipad, was carrying seven passengers. One individual is reported to have survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. According to official sources, the helicopter was ferrying tourists who were planning to travel to Gangnani by road after landing at the Harsil helipad. Within hours, local authorities confirmed the fatalities and began mobilizing teams to the crash site located in a remote and difficult-to-access area of Uttarkashi.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. Taking to social media, he wrote, “May God grant peace to the souls of those who died in the accident and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss.”
The chief minister also directed the administration to provide the best possible medical care and support to the survivor and to launch a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. “I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard and every situation is being monitored,” Dhami said in an official statement.
The district magistrate of Uttarkashi has also departed for the crash site to oversee the ongoing rescue and relief operations. Teams from the SDRF and other emergency services were deployed immediately and are actively engaged in managing the situation, retrieving bodies, and securing the area.

Gangnani, the planned destination after landing at Harsil, is a small town located approximately 30 kilometers away by road and is frequented for its natural hot springs and religious significance.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the crash. Meanwhile, support is being extended to the families of those who died, and arrangements are being made for the transportation of the bodies once formalities are completed.
