The Wankhede Stadium witnessed a momentous evening on Sunday as Mumbai Indians (MI) clinched a vital win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge. Supported from the stands by his wife Sanjana Ganesan and their son Angad, Bumrah delivered a stellar performance, picking up four crucial wickets and electrifying the crowd with his game-changing spells. The occasion was made even more special as shutterbugs captured a fleeting glimpse of little Angad in the stands. However, the three-second footage of the one-and-a-half-year-old quickly went viral, triggering widespread commentary on social media platforms. What was intended to be a quiet moment of family support soon escalated into a storm of unsolicited opinions and insensitive remarks from netizens.
Reacting strongly to the unexpected and unwelcome attention surrounding her son, Sanjana Ganesan took to Instagram to voice her frustration and disappointment. In a heartfelt story post, she condemned the way social media users had turned her child into a topic of public debate and entertainment. "Our son is NOT a topic for your entertainment," Sanjana wrote. She emphasized that she and Bumrah have always prioritized protecting Angad’s privacy and shielding him from the often toxic environment of the internet. Acknowledging the risks of bringing a young child to a stadium teeming with cameras, Sanjana explained that their sole intention was to support Bumrah during a significant match and nothing more.
"We have no interest in our son being viral Internet content or national news, with unnecessarily opinionated keyboard warriors deciding who Angad is, what his problem is, what his personality is, from 3 seconds of footage," she added. Sanjana expressed concern over the irresponsible nature of online discussions where serious terms like trauma and depression were being casually linked to a baby. "He is one and a half years old. Throwing around words like trauma and depression in reference to a baby says so much about who we're becoming as a community and it's honestly really sad," she pointed out. She firmly stated that online users know nothing about Angad or their lives and requested everyone to keep their opinions consistent with that reality. "You know NOTHING about our son, nothing about our lives, and I request you to keep your opinions online true to that," she concluded.
Despite the unnecessary social media drama, Bumrah’s performance on the field remained the highlight of the night. His four-wicket haul decimated the LSG batting order, proving once again why he is regarded as one of the most lethal bowlers in world cricket. His efforts were instrumental in keeping Mumbai Indians' playoff hopes alive, much to the delight of fans both in the stadium and watching around the world. The support from his family, although marred by internet controversies, was clearly a source of strength for Bumrah. As Mumbai Indians continue their IPL 2025 journey, fans will be hoping that both Bumrah’s on-field brilliance and his family’s dignity are respected by the wider community.
