The Baruipur minor girl death case in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas has triggered a major police investigation after the child was found dead near a pond and a suspected accused was allegedly lynched by angry locals.
Police have formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case, while officials said raids and further action are underway to identify everyone involved in the alleged crime and the violence that followed.
Baruipur Minor Girl Death Case Sparks Tension In South 24 Parganas
The incident was reported from the Surjyapur area of Baruipur, where the minor had gone missing on Saturday afternoon after leaving home. According to police, her family searched for her through the night before her body was recovered on Sunday morning near Surjyapur Haat.
Family members alleged that the girl had been forcibly taken away by several people. Police are investigating the allegations, while the final cause of death and the sexual assault claim are expected to be confirmed through official medical findings.
Suspect Lynched As Protests Turn Violent
Soon after the body was recovered, tension spread across the area. Locals allegedly caught one suspected accused, and he later died after being assaulted by a mob, police said.
The anger also led to large protests, with residents blocking roads, burning tyres and damaging police vehicles while demanding immediate arrests. A heavy police force was deployed to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence.
Police officials appealed to residents to cooperate with the investigation and assured that no one involved in the case would be spared. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination after senior officers intervened and protesters allowed the police to proceed.
SIT Probe To Examine Crime And Violence
A Special Investigation Team has been formed to examine how the crime unfolded, identify all accused persons and look into the sequence of events. Police have also begun action in connection with the mob violence, assault on police personnel and vandalism reported during the unrest.
Officials said the investigation will cover both the death of the minor and the alleged lynching of the suspect. The case has raised serious questions over child safety, public anger and the need for a lawful investigation in sensitive crime cases.
Police Investigation Continues In Baruipur
Police have made arrests and detentions in connection with the case, while searches are continuing for others suspected to be linked to the incident. Senior officers have said that all available evidence, witness statements and post-mortem findings will be examined before further charges are finalised.
The identity of the minor has not been disclosed, in line with legal and ethical norms followed in cases involving sexual assault allegations. The case remains under investigation, and officials have urged people not to spread unverified claims while the SIT continues its probe.
