North Texas town cancels Taste Addison, explores smaller events
ADDISON, Texas — Officials in Addison are exploring alternative ways to promote local businesses after discontinuing a long-running food and music festival that had been a staple community event for three decades.

The annual festival, traditionally held at Addison Circle Park, had been scheduled for Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19, 2026. However, the event was canceled earlier this year following a review of its financial impact on the town.

City leaders determined that the cost of hosting the festival outweighed its economic return. According to a presentation delivered to the city council in January 2026, the town incurred losses exceeding $700,000 from last year’s event. While some supporters argued that the festival provided promotional value through social media exposure and increased visibility, officials raised concerns about limited direct spending by attendees.

Council discussions highlighted that many festivalgoers were local residents, which reduced the anticipated boost to hotel occupancy and broader tourism revenue. Rising expenses, including fees for nationally recognized music performers, were also cited as a significant factor in the decision to discontinue the event.

Officials emphasized a shift in strategy, focusing on initiatives that more directly benefit local restaurants and businesses. Proposals discussed during council meetings included organizing extended restaurant-focused promotions rather than large-scale entertainment events.

Moving forward, municipal staff are evaluating smaller, year-round events designed to attract visitors while maintaining lower operational costs. The approach is intended to provide more targeted support to local establishments while adapting to changing economic conditions and community preferences.
