Due Amici Columbus Closure Ends 22-Year Run at 67 E. Gay Street

Due Amici, a longtime Italian restaurant at 67 E. Gay Street in downtown Columbus, has closed after 22 years in business.

The restaurant ended service after its final day on June 8, bringing an abrupt close to a downtown dining spot that had served residents, office workers, visitors, and private events since opening in 2004.

Restaurant cites changing downtown conditions

In a statement, Due Amici ownership called the closure a difficult decision and cited changing conditions in downtown Columbus as the main reason for shutting down.

Owner Jeff Glavan thanked customers, employees, vendors, and partners who supported the restaurant over more than two decades. He said serving the Columbus community had been an honor and noted that the relationships and memories built at the restaurant would remain part of its legacy.

Due Amici also said events already scheduled through June will still be honored, giving customers with planned gatherings some continuity despite the closure.

A familiar Italian restaurant leaves downtown Columbus

Due Amici became known as a downtown Columbus Italian restaurant for business meals, celebrations, and group dining. Its location on East Gay Street placed it near the city’s central business district, where restaurants often depend on a mix of office traffic, residents, and visitors.

The closure adds to broader changes in downtown dining and local hospitality, where long-running independent restaurants continue to adjust to shifting customer habits and business conditions.

For longtime patrons, the closing of Due Amici ends a familiar chapter in Columbus’ restaurant scene and removes one of downtown’s recognizable Italian dining names after 22 years.
