In a significant move to strengthen international relations and improve connectivity, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that efforts are underway to establish a direct flight route between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, a prominent city in Japan. The proposal came during a high-level meeting in Hyderabad on June 2, when Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi and his delegation visited the state to attend the Telangana Formation Day celebrations.
This visit follows the Chief Minister’s official trip to Japan in April, during which he explored the renowned Eco-Town model of Kitakyushu and signed several Letters of Intent with Japanese environmental institutions. Deeply impressed by the sustainable urban initiatives he witnessed, Revanth Reddy has now taken steps to replicate similar models in Hyderabad.
An MoU was signed between the Telangana government and the city of Kitakyushu to collaborate on areas such as environmental protection, waste management, and recycling. The Chief Minister emphasized that this partnership aims to build a circular economy and support zero-emission projects in Telangana’s capital.
Revanth Reddy also underlined his government’s focus on key urban rejuvenation efforts like the Musi River development and skill enhancement for Telangana’s youth. He expressed strong interest in introducing Japanese language programs across the state, citing growing demand from students eager to pursue career and education opportunities in Japan.
The Chief Minister praised Kitakyushu’s leadership in eco-urban innovation and expressed confidence that the friendship between Telangana and Kitakyushu would lead to long-term collaborative growth. Several senior government officials and dignitaries, including Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi and Chief Secretary K. Rama Krishna Rao, were present during the meeting. If finalized, the proposed direct flight will be a first between the two cities, further boosting trade, tourism, and educational exchange between Telangana and Japan.
