India's women boxers delivered a stellar performance at the second World Boxing Cup, clinching three gold medals and helping the country secure a historic tally of 11 medals the best-ever at the event. Sakshi (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Nupur (+80kg) were the standout performers, each delivering impressive victories in their respective finals.
Gold Medal Performances from Sakshi, Jaismine, and Nupur
- Sakshi was at her attacking best in the 54kg final, dominating USA's Yosline Perez with speed and combination punches to win a unanimous decision.
- Jaismine, known for her tall frame and long reach, secured the 57kg gold by keeping her cool under pressure and outpointing Jucielen Cequeira Romeu of Brazil with a 4-1 decision.
- Nupur overcame an early setback against Yeldana Talipova of Kazakhstan in the 80+kg final, bouncing back to dominate the next two rounds and win 5-0.
Along with the three golds, India also bagged five silver and three bronze medals. Jugnoo (men's 85kg), Pooja Rani (women's 80kg), Hitesh Gulia (men's 70kg), and Abhinash Jamwal (men's 65kg) all earned silver medals after losing their finals. In the first session of the final day, Sakshi's performance set the tone, earning India's first gold of the competition. In the evening, Jaismine showed resilience, landing counter punches in the final round to secure her gold. Nupur had to dig deep, especially after losing the opening round, but her dominant display in the next two rounds earned her a commanding victory.
Meenakshi put up a strong fight in the 48kg final but narrowly lost to Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan, with a 3-2 verdict. Jugnoo lost 0-5 to Bekzad Nurdauletov of Kazakhstan, and Pooja Rani went down by the same score to Eseta Flint of Australia. Hitesh Gulia was also beaten 0-5 by Kaian Oliveira of Brazil, while Abhinash Jamwal narrowly lost 2-3 to Yuri Falcao of Brazil.
The bronze medalists from India included Sanju (women's 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men's 75kg), and Narender (men's 90+kg), rounding out a successful outing for the Indian contingent at the World Boxing Cup. This performance marks a major milestone for India in boxing, with the country's boxers showcasing resilience and skill to claim their best-ever medal tally at the event.
