PM Modi Melbourne Event Faces Probe Over Reported Online Threat

Australian authorities are investigating a reported online threat aimed at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi before a planned community event in Melbourne, according to media reports.

The event, titled “Melbourne Meets Modi,” is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. AEST on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Marvel Stadium, based on the event details provided.

PM Modi Melbourne Event Under Security Review

The reported threat appeared in a comment under a Facebook post promoting the Melbourne gathering by the Australia India Foundation. The comment was posted by an account identified as Abu Mustafa and was translated from Arabic as a warning that the stadium roof should be closed during the event or Modi would be coming to Australia “for his death.”

The comment reportedly prompted a security response. Investigators have traced an IP address linked to the account, according to the details available. No arrest has been publicly confirmed.

Modi’s Australia Visit Part of Three-Nation Tour

Modi is scheduled to travel from Monday, July 6, 2026, to Saturday, July 11, 2026, on a three-nation visit covering Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. His Australia stop is expected to include official engagements and outreach to members of the Indian diaspora.

High-level foreign visits typically involve coordination between the visiting leader’s security team, host-nation agencies and local police. Security planning for the Melbourne event is expected to remain under review because Marvel Stadium is a major public venue and the program is being promoted as a large community gathering.

Authorities have not announced any change to the event schedule based on the details currently available. The investigation remains focused on the social media comment, its origin and whether it poses any credible risk ahead of Modi’s planned appearance in Melbourne.
