Security forces recovered 45 scrap shells during a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) conducted in the Ghat Ningli and Sheer Colony areas of Sopore in north Kashmir. The operation was part of ongoing security measures aimed at preventing the concealment or misuse of suspicious materials across the Valley.
Sopore Security Operation Conducted by Joint Forces
The search operation was jointly carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Sopore, the 177 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army. The operation was conducted under the jurisdiction of Police Station Amargadh following routine security inputs.
Officials said the coordinated search was part of regular area domination exercises carried out to strengthen security and identify any suspicious materials hidden in residential or public areas. Teams conducted detailed searches of identified locations after receiving credible routine inputs.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 45 scrap shells from the residence of Shahbaz Aziz Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar, located in Sheer Colony, Sopore.
Scrap Shells Recovery Under Investigation
According to officials, the recovered shells appear to be scrap in nature and currently do not indicate the presence of any live or usable ammunition. Authorities emphasized that the material has been seized for scientific examination to determine its exact nature and origin.
Investigators are also examining how the scrap shells came to be stored at the residence and whether any legal provisions related to possession or storage have been violated. The recovered material has been sent to the concerned agencies for detailed forensic assessment.
Officials confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the recovery so far. They added that the investigation remains ongoing and all relevant facts surrounding the incident will be examined before any conclusions are reached.
