Telugu NRI Voter Registration: SATA Seeks Online Help in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

The Saudi Arabia Telugu Association has called for stronger Telugu NRI voter registration support in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including online verification services and outreach in the Telugu language.

The Hyderabad-based association, known as SATA, said Telugu citizens living overseas may be unsure whether they need to register, update their information or respond to requests connected to electoral-roll revisions.

The association’s statement listed a July 14 deadline for Andhra Pradesh and a June 25-to-July 24 revision period for Telangana. However, it did not specify the year, and the schedules should be confirmed with election authorities before voters act on them.

Telugu NRI voter registration concerns raised by SATA

SATA general secretary Muzammil Sheikh estimated that between 800,000 and 1 million people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana live overseas. He warned that some could encounter registration problems if they miss required procedures.

According to Sheikh, many Telugu migrants in Gulf countries have limited access to election information and cannot travel to India frequently. He estimated that about 70% are blue-collar workers who typically receive leave only once every two years, making in-person resolution of voter-list problems difficult.

Group seeks online verification and Telugu outreach

SATA urged state governments and election officials to expand online registration and voter-detail verification. It also requested Telugu-language webinars, awareness campaigns and designated officials who could answer questions from expatriate communities through virtual meetings.

The organization said it has begun sharing information through social media and Telugu community groups in Saudi Arabia. The campaign is intended to help eligible voters understand the revision process and any action needed to maintain accurate voter records.

Sheikh said overseas Telugu communities contribute to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through remittances and investments. SATA argues that accessible digital assistance is necessary so distance, limited leave and language barriers do not prevent eligible citizens abroad from addressing voter-registration issues.
