Richie’s representative confirmed on September 22, 2026, that the singer underwent what was described as a common procedure for atrial fibrillation. The representative said the procedure was successful and that Richie is doing well, but will take time away from the stage before returning.
The health development came during Richie’s “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. Three upcoming performances were canceled following the hospitalization, according to the latest report.
What is atrial fibrillation?
Atrial fibrillation is an irregular and sometimes rapid heart rhythm. According to Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs when electrical signals in the heart’s upper chambers become chaotic, causing the chambers to beat irregularly and out of sync with the lower chambers.

Earlier hospitalization and return to public view
Richie had also checked himself into a hospital on August 29, 2026, after a performance in St. Louis. He was admitted to intensive care for precautionary cardiac testing and was released by September 2.
On September 19, he was photographed attending a dinner in Beverly Hills, marking his first public appearance following that hospitalization.
