MS Dhoni Tops Taxpayer List As Jharkhand-Bihar Income Tax Collection Hits ₹20,000 Crore

MS Dhoni Tops Taxpayer List As Jharkhand-Bihar Income Tax Collection Hits ₹20,000 Crore

MS Dhoni Leads Taxpayer List In Jharkhand-Bihar

MS Dhoni has emerged as the highest individual taxpayer from the Jharkhand-Bihar region as income tax collection touched around ₹20,000 crore in FY26, officials said.

The Income Tax Department’s collection from Jharkhand and Bihar during the 2025–26 financial year marks a strong revenue signal from eastern India, a region often overshadowed by larger metro-driven tax zones.

₹20,000 Crore Tax Haul Shows Regional Growth

A senior official said the combined tax collection from the two states stood near ₹20,000 crore for FY26, reflecting better compliance, wider reporting, and stronger economic activity across smaller cities.

Officials linked the performance to improved digital tracking, enforcement, mining activity, services growth, and expanding taxpayer participation.

Dhoni Remains Region’s Biggest Individual Taxpayer

Former India captain MS Dhoni, who is based in Ranchi, was named the highest individual taxpayer from the combined Bihar-Jharkhand region. Officials did not disclose his tax amount.

Among companies, Central Coalfields Limited, Bharat Coking Coal Limited and CMPDI were reported among the major corporate taxpayers.

Why This Matters

The numbers show that India’s tax base is no longer driven only by major business hubs. Smaller states are becoming increasingly important to national revenue, while high-profile taxpayers like Dhoni continue to draw public attention to compliance and fiscal growth.
