Macron Says Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Hopes Rest On Gaza War End

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions to win the Nobel Peace Prize depend entirely on whether he can end the ongoing war in Gaza. Speaking to France’s BFM TV from New York, Macron emphasized that Trump is the only leader with enough influence to pressure Israel to halt the conflict.

According to Macron, Washington’s role in supplying weapons and equipment makes the U.S. uniquely responsible for the course of the war. “There is one person who can do something about it, and that is the U.S. president. The reason he can do more than us is because we do not supply the weapons that allow this war in Gaza to be waged. The United States of America does,” he said.

Trump earlier addressed the United Nations General Assembly with a combative and wide-ranging speech, rejecting Western allies’ proposals for a Palestinian state. He argued that such recognition would serve as a reward for Hamas militants. At the same time, Trump called for an immediate stop to the war in Gaza and urged peace negotiations.

Macron acknowledged Trump’s desire for recognition, pointing out that the U.S. leader has highlighted his role in resolving conflicts and publicly expressed his aspiration to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Macron was clear, however, that the prize is “only possible if you stop this conflict.”

Several countries, including Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia, have nominated Trump for the prize, citing his record in peace agreements and ceasefire deals. Trump himself has repeatedly claimed that he deserves the honor, which has previously been awarded to four U.S. presidents. Macron’s comments underscore that global recognition may now hinge on whether Trump delivers peace in Gaza.
