Eagle Scout Shanny Feigenbaum Honored for Wildlife Project

Shanny Feigenbaum, a dedicated Scout from Livermore, California, has achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout the highest honor in the Scouts BSA program thanks to her impactful community project focused on wildlife conservation at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area.

Feigenbaum, a member of Troop 2942 sponsored by St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, becomes the third Eagle Scout from her all-girls troop. Her achievement comes after years of active participation in Scouting since its expansion to include girls. During her time in the troop, she held multiple leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Troop Guide, which helped hone her skills in responsibility and leadership.

Project to Protect Wildlife at Shadow Cliffs

Shanny’s Eagle project addressed the environmental hazards posed by discarded fishing lines, known as monofilament, which can entangle and injure birds and aquatic animals. Her multi-phase initiative involved educating the public through a specially designed brochure, which is now distributed to anglers at Shadow Cliffs and will soon reach other East Bay Regional Parks.

She led a team to install four monofilament collection tubes on docks at Shadow Cliffs and coordinated cleanup efforts to remove harmful debris from the shoreline. Her goal was to ensure a cleaner, safer environment for local wildlife, while also raising public awareness on responsible fishing practices.

Currently a sophomore at Granada High School, Shanny is a black belt in Taekwondo, assistant coach at Elite Taekwondo Academy, and a member of the school’s track team. Her interests span from baking to hiking and photography. Looking ahead, she plans to attend a four-year university where she can build a career combining her passions for leadership, service, and the outdoors.

To become an Eagle Scout, candidates must meet rigorous requirements, including earning 21 merit badges and leading a service project that benefits a community group. Shanny's project fulfills that mission and highlights her strong sense of civic responsibility. Community members interested in joining Scouting at any level are encouraged to contact Twin Valley District Executive Elijah Gonzles at [email protected].
