Hyderabad Pharma Unit Blast Kills 8, 13 Rescued

A major industrial tragedy struck Hyderabad on the morning of June 30, 2025, when a powerful explosion ripped through a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit at Sigachi Industries Pvt. Ltd. in the Pashamylaram industrial area. The blast, which reportedly occurred due to a pressure build-up in one of the reactors, has claimed the lives of eight workers and left 13 others injured and trapped under the debris. Firefighters rushed to the scene following a distress call at 9:37 a.m., deploying 11 fire tenders to control the fire and rescue trapped personnel.

Rescue teams managed to pull out 13 workers alive from the wreckage. All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, many of them suffering from severe burn injuries. However, the search and rescue operation continued throughout the day as officials feared more people might still be trapped inside the collapsed building. The company, known for its work in pharma excipients and food ingredients, saw its stock plunge nearly 10% on the BSE as the news spread.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responded promptly to the incident, instructing authorities to take all necessary measures to rescue workers and provide immediate medical support. Preliminary reports suggest lapses in safety protocols, though a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and hold those responsible accountable. The tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns about industrial safety in Hyderabad's fast-expanding pharma sector.
