Chandrababu Naidu Announces 1,000 Electric Buses for APSRTC to Boost Green Energy

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials of APSRTC to introduce a fleet of 1,000 electric buses in a bid to transform the state’s public transport system into a more environmentally friendly and sustainable one. This directive is part of the government’s larger vision to encourage green energy solutions and reduce carbon emissions in the state.

During a review meeting held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister emphasized the growing need for clean and sustainable mobility solutions, which not only contribute to a healthier environment but also provide significant economic benefits. Naidu pointed out that the induction of electric buses will help in reducing fuel costs, curbing pollution, and increasing the efficiency of APSRTC services. The initiative aims to make public transport more affordable, accessible, and eco-conscious.

This move aligns with the state’s commitment to fostering green energy, as evidenced by the recent distribution of over 5,000 electric cycles in Kuppam. The government’s push for electric mobility is designed to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote cleaner alternatives for urban commuting. In addition to cutting down operational costs, the introduction of electric buses is expected to play a crucial role in improving air quality in urban centers.

Officials have been tasked with creating a detailed action plan for the phased introduction of electric buses, ensuring that public transport remains both economically viable and environmentally responsible. The ambitious project is expected to attract central government assistance and private sector investment in the electric mobility infrastructure sector.

By introducing these electric buses, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself to become a pioneer in sustainable public transport in India. The state's proactive approach in embracing clean energy solutions is expected to inspire other states to follow suit, ultimately contributing to the national goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting green mobility in urban areas.
