In a video message shared on social media, Azar said Israel was looking forward to hosting Modi and emphasized that engagements between the two countries have consistently gone beyond routine diplomacy. He noted that the relationship is rooted in trust, driven by innovation, and shaped by a shared understanding of contemporary global challenges. According to the envoy, the visit will help both countries move forward decisively in expanding their collaboration.
A key focus of the visit will be strengthening defence cooperation. Azar indicated that India and Israel plan to update existing security agreements to address evolving global threats. He said the revised framework would enable both sides to undertake more sensitive joint projects and co-develop advanced technological solutions. The two countries have maintained close defence ties for years, but officials believe the changing geopolitical environment requires deeper coordination.
Economic engagement is also expected to feature prominently during the visit. Azar highlighted that bilateral economic ties are gaining momentum, pointing to the recently signed bilateral investment treaty and ongoing discussions on a Free Trade Agreement. He expressed hope that the FTA could be finalized within the year, which would further enhance trade flows and investment opportunities between the two economies.
Beyond defence and trade, the visit is set to expand collaboration in emerging and high-technology sectors. The Israeli envoy identified Artificial Intelligence, quantum technology, and cybersecurity as priority areas where joint innovation efforts will be intensified. He also noted potential cooperation in transportation, water management, agriculture, and academic partnerships, underscoring Israel’s interest in greater participation by Indian infrastructure companies.
Ahead of the trip, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s message describing him as a “dear friend” and calling the visit a milestone in bilateral ties. Modi responded by reaffirming India’s commitment to the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing shared values of trust, innovation, peace, and progress.
This will be Modi’s second visit to Israel since his landmark 2017 trip and is expected to carry historic significance. During the visit, he is scheduled to address the Knesset, marking the first time an Indian Prime Minister will speak before Israel’s parliament. The leaders are also expected to participate in an innovation event in Jerusalem and visit Yad Vashem together.
Officials on both sides view the visit as an opportunity to elevate the India-Israel strategic partnership to the next level, with a strong focus on future technologies and long-term economic cooperation.
