Amaravati’s Capital Status: Bill Sent to President for Final Approval

The Amaravati Bill, which proposes the city of Amaravati as the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh, has now reached the final step of its approval process after being passed in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. This crucial bill has been the subject of intense discussion for nearly five hours in Parliament, but now, with the approval of both houses, it is in the hands of the President of India, Draupadi Murmu.

The legislation was sent to the President’s office earlier today for final approval, a step that is often seen as a formality, given that the bill has received full support from the central government. Once President Murmu signs the resolution, it will come into immediate effect, formally declaring Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

The approval process, which has taken roughly a week from Parliament to the President, marks a significant milestone for Andhra Pradesh. As Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu rightly noted, the state is no longer without a capital. Amaravati, with its rich history and growing infrastructure, will now proudly serve as the administrative heart of the state, home to over five crore people. This move reflects the culmination of years of political maneuvering and legal processes, and with the President’s signature, the city of Amaravati will officially take its place as the center of governance for Andhra Pradesh.
