India and Indonesia discussed critical minerals and rare earth magnets, which are essential for electric vehicles, clean energy, electronics and defence manufacturing. This matters because countries are trying to reduce supply chain risks and avoid overdependence on a few global suppliers.
A steel cooperation plan involving Indian and Indonesian companies also added industrial weight to the visit. Along with this, both sides explored cooperation in digital payments, artificial intelligence, startups, telecom and space technology. The proposed IIM Bangalore campus in Indonesia gives the partnership an education and talent-development angle.
Health, agriculture and institutions included
The agreements also covered health workforce cooperation, medical product regulation, disaster management, agriculture and election management. India’s plan to supply DWR 162 wheat seeds to Indonesia shows that food security remains part of the relationship. Cooperation between election bodies also reflects the democratic link between the world’s largest democracy and one of Southeast Asia’s biggest democracies.
