An IndiGo aircraft operating on the Kuwait–Hyderabad route made an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday morning after authorities received an email warning of a potential bomb threat. Officials said the message, which referred to a “human bomb,” was sent to Hyderabad Airport authorities shortly before the flight was diverted. The aircraft was immediately directed to Mumbai, where it landed safely and was taken to an isolated bay for further inspection.
Security agencies initiated a full-scale response in line with aviation safety protocols. Bomb detection squads, airport security personnel, and emergency responders were deployed to the site. The aircraft was cordoned off to ensure controlled access, and passengers were instructed to remain calm as checks continued. Officials said the threat assessment process is being handled with utmost caution, and the aircraft will be cleared for departure only after all inspections are complete. The identities of the sender and the motive behind the email remain under investigation.
Authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members aboard the flight are safe. Initial assessments suggest that the precautionary steps were taken swiftly in accordance with established procedures for in-flight security threats. The emergency diversion caused some disruption to airport operations, but flight movement at Mumbai Airport remained largely stable as security teams worked to manage the situation efficiently.
The incident occurred just a day after a private school in Maharashtra’s Thane district received a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax. That case had prompted an extensive search of the school premises before officials declared the threat unfounded. While it is not yet known whether the two threats are linked, investigators are examining all angles to determine whether there is any pattern or connection.
Aviation authorities have reiterated that passenger safety remains their highest priority and that all suspicious communications continue to be treated with seriousness. The current probe is ongoing, and additional information is expected as officials verify the authenticity of the email and complete the security checks on the aircraft.
