Two Indian nationals were shot dead in northern Italy in a late-night incident outside a place of worship, raising serious concerns within the local community and prompting an active investigation by authorities. The shooting occurred in Covo, a town in Bergamo province, shortly before midnight on Friday, as individuals were leaving a warehouse that had been used for religious gatherings associated with the Vaisakhi festival.
The victims have been identified as Raginder Singh, 48, who resided in Covo, and Gurmit Singh, 48, from the nearby town of Agnadello. Both men had reportedly attended the gathering and were outside the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji when the attack took place. According to early findings, the assailant approached the victims and opened fire before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Investigators recovered approximately ten shell casings at the location, indicating a targeted shooting rather than a spontaneous altercation. Initial reports suggest that authorities are considering the possibility of a premeditated act, as there were no clear signs of a dispute escalating into violence at the scene. Witness accounts have further indicated that the suspect may have been known within the community and had previously visited the gurdwara.
A third individual was reportedly grazed by bullets during the incident, though no additional fatalities were confirmed. The shooting has sent shockwaves through the local Indian and Sikh communities, particularly as it occurred during a period of religious observance. A planned Vaisakhi celebration involving local institutions was scheduled nearby the following day, underscoring the timing and sensitivity of the attack.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting and to identify and apprehend the suspect. Authorities have not released further details, but the case remains a priority as officials work to ensure community safety and address concerns arising from the incident.
